Xiaomi Automobile wrote on a Weibo post that the problem of rusting brake discs occurs after parking the vehicle in rainy or humid weather, and is a common scenario for all vehicles. Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with a kinetic energy regenerative braking mechanism, so that the hydraulic braking system is less likely to be used, but it may also cause the problem of rusting. For this reason, Xiaomi SU7 provides both active and passive rust removal functions for the brake discs.

Passive rust removal means that during the normal operation of kinetic energy regeneration, the system will anticipate the trend of rusting on the brake discs, and regularly and flexibly call on the hydraulic brake to participate in the breaking work. This would grind away the rust on the brake discs, and silently complete the rust removal work without the user's awareness.

Active rust removal mainly focuses on the fact that after a long period of parking, more rust stains will be attached to the brake discs, which users would want to remove quickly. When the function is turned on through the control screen, hydraulic braking will provide braking power instead of kinetic energy regenerative brake to realise active and rapid rust removal, which will affect the mileage to a certain extent when it is in use. The company will upload this function through an OTA update in the future.
